Kyle Hollingsworth Threatens Joel Cummins With Riff Infringement

The String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth played a playful April Fools’ Day prank on Umphrey's McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins, issuing a notice that the former was suing the latter for “riff infringement.” Hollingsworth went so far as recording a video to offer support for his claims of keyboard plagiarism.

With a not-so-subtle nod to the recent court battle between the family of Marvin Gaye and Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke, Hollingsworth offered this statement on the situation:

In a feud that has gone unnoticed for nearly two decades, String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth has finally decided to take on Joel Cummins, keyboardist of Umphrey’s McGee. Cummins’ blatant plagiarism has blurred lines between his own music and that of Hollingsworth. After Hollingsworth’s many friendly requests for Cummins to change his course of songwriting, it appears time Cummins has got to give it up.
This battle on the stage has turned into what is sure to become a battle in court.

Joel took to Twitter to respond:

.@SCI_Official @KyleOnKeys @umphreysmcgee Kyle-that's not all I've stolen. Check your closet. All your shiny shirts & cow garb are now mine!
