Cover Alert | Dave Matthews Covers Neil Young In Camden

Dave Matthews Band returned to the road this past weekend to continue their extensive Summer Tour on Friday and Saturday night at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey. As we reported, DMB was joined by special guest Warren Haynes for a handful of songs on Friday including a cover of Neil Young's "Down By The River," and Dave had one more Neil tune in store for Saturday's show.

All DMB shows this summer are of the two set format variety with the first stanza of the acoustic variety and the second an electric performance. Dave Matthews opened Saturday's show by himself and offered up a pair of tour debuts to kick off the show. First up was Matthews' rendition of "Rye Whiskey" by Tex Ritter. Dave originally started covering the song shortly before he performed it at Pete Seeger's 90th birthday party. He played it frequently in 2009 and 2010, but since it's become a rarity with the last version before Camden having taken place on June 21, 2014 at Deer Creek.

The second Dave solo tune to open Saturday's show was a cover of Neil Young's "The Needle & The Damage Done." Matthews first covered the tune at a tribute gala for Neil Young on January 29, 2010. After performing the song regularly in 2010, Dave put "The Needle & The Damage Done" on the shelf until 2014. Saturday's rendition was his first since August 24, 2014.
