David Gilmour Unveils Rattle That Lock Animated Video

On September 18 Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour will release a new solo album, Rattle That Lock, the long awaited follow-up to 2006's On An Island. This morning Gilmour unveiled the video for the first single from the LP which also happens to be its title track - "Rattle That Lock."

The guitarist tapped Alasdair & Jock from Trunk Animation, under the supervision of Hipgnosis, to create the stunning, animated black-and-white video. "I love animation when it does something that can’t be achieved any other way," Gilmour said in a press release. "The film Alasdair & Jock have made for ‘Rattle That Lock’ highlights a darkness in the song that couldn’t have been shown any other way."

Gilmour wrote "Rattle That Lock" with his wife Polly Samson. "'Rattle That Lock' was inspired, musically, by the sound that’s played at French railway stations before they make an announcement," the guitarist said in a video about the new album. "It’s a jingle, a four-note jingle that’s played. Every time I heard it, it would make me want to start dancing. I turned my iPhone on, held my iPhone up nearer the speaker and waited for the next announcement."

Rattle That Lock is available for pre-order in a variety of formats here. Tickets for Gilmour's first North American tour in a decade go on sale today.
