Opening Night | Col. Bruce Hampton & Aquarium Rescue Unit

Last night Col. Bruce Hampton and Aquarium Rescue Unit began their first headlining tour since 2011 at the Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado. The band mixed classic material with a handful of new songs - Col. Bruce & ARU's first original debuts in decades. Guitarist Jimmy Herring will participate in a Twitter Takeover of @JamBase at 4 p.m. ET today. Tweet your questions to use using hashtag #ARUtakeover.

The first set in Boulder included the evening's first new original - "The Dragon." Hampton also led the band through an opening stanza chock full of covers including "Good Morning Little School Girl," "Fixin' To Die" and "Yield Not To Temptation." Set Two opened with another new original, "1911," and later debuted "Rampage." The set also included renditions of "Jack The Rabbit," "Space Is The Place," "Davy Crockett," among other tunes. Hampton's own "Basically Frightened" served as encore.

A recording of last night's show has already surfaced on bt.etree.org. Listen to "The Dragon" thanks to taper Rob O'Brien.
