Phil Lesh & Friends Offer Bonus Grateful Dead 1972 Tribute

Phil Lesh & Friends tribute to each year of the Grateful Dead at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California in honor of the band's 50th anniversary continued on Sunday night with a bonus 1972 show. For the group's 1972 tribute, those who purchased tickets for Saturday night's show were given free admission to the venue for a bonus show on Sunday.

The evening started with a chat from Jay Blakesberg, Phil Lesh and sound engineer Dennis "Wiz" Leonard about Europe '72 featuring a slide show. Lesh told the crowd the bonus show came in honor of a free show the Grateful Dead played in Lille, France during Europe '72. He also noted they weren't using the Lille (5/13/72) setlist as a guide for the performance as there were too many songs duplicated from the show Phil & Friends played on Saturday night. With that said, Phil, Grahame Lesh, Ezra Lipp, Stu Allen and Jeff Chimenti went about re-creating the show the Grateful Dead played at San Francisco's Winterland on December 10, 1972.

Phil Lesh & Friends stuck to the same setlist the Dead used at Winterland with Stu Allen and Grahame Lesh trading off lead vocal duties. The ensemble was joined by special guest Jeanette Ferber on vocals for "Playing In The Band" and "Sugar Magnolia."
